6 Tips For Setting The Dress Code At Your Wedding

Weddings

23 Apr

Your wedding is supposed to be the happiest and most special day of your life, so of course you want everything to be perfect! That includes your guests as other people, after all, do have a propensity for spoiling otherwise enjoyable occasions. Here are 9 rules to laying down your dress code in a way that will not be ignored.

Be Specific

If you leave people room to interpret, you can be sure that they will do just that. If you are setting a dress code, be as specific as you can. Some aspects of the dress code might not have the same specificity, for example, saying ‘wear a smart and stylish hat’, is more vague than ‘only hats from Americanhatmakers.com please’. If you are going to ask guests to wear specific brands, spare some thought for the price tag. You don’t want to put guests in the position of feeling obligated to spend what they can’t afford.

Don’t Forget About Other Events

In addition to the wedding itself, you may well be inviting your guests to some other related events. Perhaps you will be having a next day brunch? If so, make sure that your guests understand what the respective dress codes are.

Know Your Terminology

It is important that you familiarize yourself with common terminology that relates to dress code. Link your guests to that page as well if you need to, just make sure that you all understand each other! In addition to this, if there are some misunderstandings, despite your best efforts, do not despair! Instead, try and embrace the situation and approach it with good humor, it’s your wedding after all!

Spread the Word

Enlist your most loyal allies – your bridesmaids and closest friends – and have them spread the word about your dress code. It is worth sitting them down and showing them what you mean with each of your specific requirements. They can then help to ensure that everyone is dressed appropriately on the day.

Pinterest

Pinterest is a really useful tool for showing others what you are trying to achieve. You can use Pinterest to create a board which shows specific examples of the kinds of garments and styles that you are hoping to encourage.

Make Things Fun!

Of course, weddings are stressful times and you want everything to go off without a hitch, but until it does there is always room for something to go wrong. In order to improve the chances of guests adhering to the correct dress code, make sure that you communicate it in a fun way. If you don’t, it can come across as being a little demanding and aggressive. If there are sentimental or other reasons for your choices, include these as well.

It is natural to want everything to be perfect on your wedding day, in fact, it would be strange if you didn’t worry or weren’t feeling stressed about your wedding day. One of the easiest ways of giving yourself peace of mind is to set a dress code for your guests. That way, you can control the overall look and feel of your wedding. The attire that your guests wear will have an impact on how photographs turn out, for example, so give the above tips a try.
