Six Ways to Get Your Home Ready for Spring and Summer

Home Decor

26 Feb

Everyone dreams of the warmer days, whether they’re planning to relax in the yard or throw summer parties and events. After a long winter, your home may need sprucing up, so here are some ways in which you can get your home ready for spring and summer.

  • Take a day for a spring clean

Spring cleaning is traditionally done as the weather gets warmer, as the lighter days mean you see more dust and you’ll no doubt find more motivation to clean. There are plenty of checklists and tips for spring cleaning to be found online, and you’ll want to do jobs such as:

  • Cleaning blinds
  • Washing windows
  • Vacuuming fixtures and fittings
  • Washing baseboards, windowsills and other areas that get grubby over time

You may be surprised by how different your home feels after a spring clean, and it’ll have a lighter atmosphere, ready for the warmer days.

  • Work on your curb appeal

During the spring and summer months, the exterior of your home will be noticed a lot more, especially if you plan to have a lot of visitors over. So, it’s worth spending a little time sprucing up this area. Paint your front door, trim back foliage and do some serious weeding. You should also do those jobs you’ve been putting off, such as replacing outdoor light bulbs and clearing gutters of all those fall leaves.

  • Get your air con checked

If your air conditioning system is going to break down, odds are it’ll happen during a heatwave, so it’s worth having your system checked over and serviced before then. Cardinal Plumbing provide HVAC services Alexandria VA, including regular maintenance, so you can ensure your system is ready and working when the hot weather turns up.

Many systems could do with being flushed or having a new filter, which is usually a simple job, but helps your system run better.

  • Lighten up your décor

While you may not want to completely change your décor with the seasons, you can change the look of a room by switching a few things around. Some people switch their winter drapes for lighter options in the summer, and you can pack away any fuzzy blankets or cushions. Some fresh flowers can also brighten up the room and get you ready for the changing season.

  • Clean out your garage

When it’s cold and dark, it can be hard to get motivated to do stuff around the house such as decluttering jobs, and stuff often gets dumped in the garage. As soon as the weather gets better, it’s a good excuse to clean out your garage, box up Christmas decorations and winter stuff, and bring out garden equipment for summer.

  • Work on the yard

From cleaning out the pool to cutting back shrubs, it’s worth dedicating some time to overhauling your yard before the warm weather begins. This will allow you to enjoy the outdoors so much more once you have the chance, whether you’re drinking wine on the patio or playing catch with the kids.
