Preparing Your Marital Home for Guests: A Guide

Home Decor

8 Nov

Getting married might just be the greatest moment of your life – a moment that your whole life hinges upon, leading to settling into a new home, preparing for infants, and nestling into a life with the one you love. But when it comes to moving into your marital home, you’ll likely have quite a bit of work to do before you get it up to your standards and ready to welcome guests into. With this article, you’ll know which areas to target first, and how to best go about a total clean and revamp of your new home – helping you achieve confidence and peace within your new life.

Start With a Deep Clean

It’s nice to start life in your home on the basis of it being totally clean. Very few homes on the market are totally new – most have been lived in by at least one previous occupant. Even if a home is new, it’ll still possibly harbor dust and dirt from the building process and from the viewings that took place within it. As such, go around your home with a deep clean in mind. Scrub surfaces, clean bathrooms, and look to those who can provide industrial cleaning solutions for your home – such as Central London carpet cleaners, who can get the muck and deep-lain dirt from your floors.

Arranging Furniture

With this step out of the way, you’ll be ready to get to work on your furniture. Make sure that the furniture is also clean and undamaged before moving it into position in your home – it may have got hit or dirty in transit. Once given the all-clear, you can decide which configuration your home would look best in. Do you want a formal living room or a cozy one? A modern kitchen, or a rustic one? These questions will need answering if you’re to curate your ideal home. Download a home interior planning app – many of them are free – in order to experiment with room layouts without heaving all your furniture into new positions each time.

Adding Personal Touches

Most homes can feel slightly sterile and characterless once you’ve just moved in. That’s to be expected, of course – you’ve not had the chance to make it your own by putting up pieces of art, ornaments, and family photographs. Now, though, is the time to do that, with an element of your marital home’s preparation being around making yourself feel like your home is your castle of happy memories and taste. Work hard on this aspect to make your house a home.

Anticipate Guests’ Needs

Finally, when inviting guests over, you’ll get an impression of how well-suited your home is to entertaining friends and family. You might realize, in the course of hosting people, that you need more side tables for drinks, or that an extra chair or two would help with increased numbers of guests. Whatever you decide, it’s best to trial and error your way to the perfect set-up by inviting your nearest and dearest to share in your new home with you and your new partner.

There you have it: simple ways to make your marital home feel like your home – a place to feel comfortable in as you settle down for the dreamy years ahead.
