How To Save Money In Your New Home

Blog· Budgeting & Finances· Home Decor

Getting your first home together can be an exciting time but it can also be costly, especially if you lived with your parents beforehand and have never been in control of the bills. There are ways in which you can save money in your new home and here are a few of the best ways to do so.

Don’t Charge Overnight

Many of us are guilty of this as we cannot put our electronics down. Charging overnight is a waste of electricity as your device will fully charge in a few hours, meaning after this, electricity is flowing through for no reason. Charge your device before bed. You sleep better if you stop looking at your screens before bedtime, so this could be a great way to get more sleep and feel more alert too. If you are still struggling to keep battery life throughout the day, invest in a portable charger. If you use your phone for an alarm and don’t want it off overnight, invest in an alarm clock.

Heating

When the cold winter months hit, especially in our first home, we may put the heating or the fire on and not think of the consequences of cost until that bill comes in and we realize just how much it can cost to heat a home. There are ways in which we can heat our home for less and are eco-friendlier. If you want to heat the room you are using rather than the whole house, you may want to look at purchasing from bestelectricfireplaces.net. Electrical fires and stoves can do the job without the need for a huge bill, and you are looking after the environment too!

Don’t Buy Bottled Water

If you purchase bottled water you can be losing out on hundreds of dollars a year. If you are out and about with work or friends, you may purchase a bottle of water to stay hydrated, another added cost we do not take into consideration. If you cannot stand the taste of tap water, buy a filter that stays in the fridge. These filter the tap water to taste exactly like bottled water, without the cost. This is also better for the environment as plastic bottles are extremely bad for many reasons. Fill up a water bottle and take it whenever you go and you could save a lot of money in a year!

Food

This is one of the biggest wastes in America, with so much food being thrown out that is still fine, mainly due to the best before date. The sell by date on a product isn’t regulated, it is just a suggestion and can be fine days after it says to be thrown away. If you are worried about a food, most food can be frozen and defrosted when needed.

Whether you split the bills or pay for things separately, these are just a few of the ways that you can save money on bills and put it towards something better, like your wedding or a holiday.
