How To Make Savings On Your Special Day

Weddings

20 Mar

Your wedding day should be the happiest day of your life and a day surrounded by friends and family who are there to celebrate your commitment to one another. Of course, weddings are famously not the cheapest events to host with the average in the US being over $20,000, so this is a major concern for many couples and their families. You will want the day to be perfect, but it is important to know that you do not necessarily have to spend a fortune to have an unforgettable wedding day and there are a few smart ways that you could make big savings while still ensuring it is a magical day that you will both always cherish.

Choose Off-Peak Times

The time of the week and year will have an enormous impact on the amount of money the entire wedding costs. You will usually find that non-summer and non-Saturday weddings will be the most affordable.

Consider Alternative Venues

It is worth researching alternative venues as you might find that you could make huge savings by looking at not-so-obvious places as the venue is a (potentially) enormous cost. A few good options worth looking into include:

  • Golf clubs
  • Public event spaces
  • Friend/family members’ land
  • Local restaurant/pub

Use Friends/Family For Key Services

There are many different services that are required for a wedding, and these can all add up. You could save a large amount by asking friends/family members to provide the service if it is an area of expertise – you should find that most will be thrilled to play a role in your special day. This might include areas like:

  • Wedding photography
  • Catering
  • Bartending
  • Transport
  • Flower displays
  • Music
  • Officiating

Find Online Discount Codes

In addition to the big expenses, you also have various other small costs, which can all add up with things like invites, keepsakes, guestbooks, programs, place cards, and decor. You can usually make big savings here by looking for discount codes, such as a Shutterfly promo code, which could make the above-listed items much more affordable while still allowing you to source high-quality, personalized items.

Affordable Food & Drink

Following this, you can also make big savings on food and drink if you take this into your own hands. You can do this with an affordable option like a BBQ with paper plates and plastic cutlery and allowing people to self-serve. In terms of drink, you usually have to pay a markup on alcoholic beverages at catered events, which is why it is a good idea to source your own alcohol from a local warehouse store and/or even brew your own beer (a great topic of conversation at the wedding).

These are a few of the best ways that you can make savings on your wedding day while still ensuring that it is a special, unforgettable day surrounded by friends and family. This should be the happiest day of your life, but equally, you do not want to create a difficult financial situation for yourself in the early days of your marriage, which is why it is worth finding ways to make savings.
