Mothers are usually the confidant when it comes to helping the bride select her dress for a wedding day. It can take several visits to the same or multiple stores to find that perfect dress and it’s often an emotional experience. For the mother of the bride, looking for her own dress can seem daunting with less direction and attention paid to this important role. More often than not, offerings can appear to be a bit less than inspiring. There’s one Miami based designer, Donna Leah Designs, that’s seeking to change that.

As the mother of the bride, it’s essential that a dress appears sophisticated, polished, stylish, and somewhat timeless. “Today’s mother of the bride is young at heart and look better then ever. The style of the dress needs to be ageless and something that is truly special,” says designer Donna Leah. “When you try on a dress you should feel fantastic in every sense. I’ve created a selection of mother-of-the-bride dresses that will be truly loved and something that will be exciting wear,” Donna Leah explains.

Before you begin your search, which most often takes place around the six- to eight-month mark, take a look online at styles and colors that you gravitate to. Take into consideration the season and venue of the wedding and let that be your guide.

Key highlights for mother of the bride dresses from Donna Leah Designs include:

Select Fabrics that Shine

If a wedding is in the evening, Donna Leah recommends a gown with fabric that shines. This is a signature of the brand that has been embraced season after season. The shine can come from hand embellishments or metallic fabrics, whatever the case, it’s this is one of the best ways to embrace a sophisticated look for nighttime.

Embrace Your Favorite Color

Feeling confident as the mother of the bride might be difficult for some. Of the best ways to feel great about what is being worn is to wear a favorite color. In this case, embrace colors and shy away from the easy to wear, yet often uninspiring, black. Donna Leah encourages people who are new to the brand to branch out and just try something new. Try on as many colors until you find a favorite.

A Chic Two-Piece

If you don’t want to wear a gown for whatever reason, no one says that you have to! The only rule for the mother of the bride is usually to not wear white. There are loads of incredibly easy to wear two-piece set that looks put together, and so much more thanks to a stunning fabric and bold hue. It’s also a great style for women that might want to hide certain areas or are different sizes on the top and bottom.

The (not so) Little Black Dress Prevails

Did we say embrace color? That might not be for everyone! Those not convinced that they can let go of a black dress for a formal occasion can embrace their must-have style with a twist. Finding the perfect black dress for a wedding, for example, can be a challenge, but only if you’ve never experienced Donna Leah Designs.

Gold and Glorious

Shine, particularly in a gold tone, adds a level of elegance instantly. An evening gown staple for Donna Leah Designs offers several print floor length gowns. This is the key to maximum style and the ultimate put together look. To be styled with a favorite accessory and statement jewelry.
