Four Ways Yoga Can Strengthen Your Relationship

Lifestyle

1 Aug

Yoga is great for your mind, body and soul. If you are looking to connect further with your partner or relieve any pre-wedding stress, couple’s yoga could be a great way to do this. Yoga can help with many problems, including back ache and insomnia, but it also has the power to strengthen relationships. Here’s how.

Healthier Patterns

Often, it is all too easy to fall into bad habits in a relationship, especially if both of you are as bad as each other when it comes to eating healthy and going to the gym. Going to a yoga class is a great way to break your habit, get up early and exercise. Yoga can help you to lose weight and increase flexibility so if you and your partner are stuck in a rut this could be how you break free.

Improved Intimacy

If you are struggling with intimacy in your relationship, or if you want to make it even better, yoga has been proven to help couples in and out of the bedroom. This does not mean that couple’s yoga is any different to yoga that you usually see, though. The yoga positions simply build up a sense of intimacy as you must have a good connection and trust to perform some of the poses. If you have been growing apart from your partner due to stressors in your lives, these simple stretches can help you to clear your minds and focus on each other for a while.

Reduced Stress Levels

Yoga is a fantastic way to forget about the outside world, including the stressors of every day life, and have some time to focus solely on your mind and body. Couple’s yoga can provide this even more so as you are relaxing and exercising in the company of your significant other. Holding hands or hugging with your partner can be a stress relief for many, so adding this to yoga can be an ultimate stress relief.

Increased Trust and Communication

Many of the poses that you perform in couple’s yoga requires some form of communication and often a lot of trust (especially for beginners). You must be able to trust your partner and communicate with them both non-verbally and verbally. If you haven’t performed yoga before, it is worth having a go by yourself before trying couple’s yoga. This means you will understand the basic poses as well as have a better understanding of what you can and can’t do at your current level. Many people struggle with the harder poses until they have been doing yoga for months or even years. You could try these online yoga classes if you’re a beginner so you can practice in your own home before trying out yoga as a couple.

Going to the same yoga classes or practicing yoga at home can instill a healthier pattern in your lives, improve your communication skills and get you back to intimacy as a couple. If you were considering starting yoga as a hobby, why not see if your partner will join you.
