Three reasons why you should update your bathroom

Home Decor

17 Dec

If you’ve been in your home for a few years now, you and your significant other might be thinking about refreshing your home. It could be adding some new soft furnishings, reframing pictures, adding a new hue to your walls or even completing some major work to your property. Does that include having a whole new bathroom, though?

Although this can be an expensive and potentially disruptive task, a timely investment, and a few days of inconvenience, renovating your bathroom is the best decision you’ll make when it comes to updating your home. Not convinced? Here are some of the reasons why you should consider upgrading.

You have new priorities

The bathroom that once helped you get through the day may now be working inefficiently. Your bathroom may have been perfect for you and your partner when you first moved in – but things may have changed since then (as well as your preferences).

When the day comes that you decide you want to add to your family, then it may also be the day that you decide to renovate your bathroom. Make sure that you have a child-friendly bathroom so that they stay safe.

It can improve your home’s value

If you’re looking to sell your property, then you might want to think about making your bathroom look its best – an unappealing bathroom can be an instant turnoff, although you should consider whether you’ll make your money back in the final home sale. There are a few tasks you can think about doing before putting your house on the market, including:

  • Neutralizing your bathroom: Remove non-essential personal items and clear out any clutter. Try to create the functional neutrality of a hotel.
  • Do a deep clean: Get rid of mildew, soap scum, limescale and surface stains – some of which may need specialized cleaning products.
  • Complete basic maintenance: This includes any repairs you may have been putting off, such as leaky taps and replacing sealant. Check the plumbing and ventilation is in good working order, too.
  • Replace bathroom fixtures, plus worn/chipped surfaces: Swap dated items (e.g. taps, showerheads, toilet roll holders) for a more modern design. Porcelain surfaces are prone to chipping, so you may wish to replace or resurface sinks and bathtubs.

If you do decide to renovate your bathroom, then consider using a bathroom designer in Hertfordshire. You will then be able to visualize your new bathroom design, pick the best furniture and accessories for your space, and they can recommend a local fitter to complete the work.

You can add features and storage

One essential item you can add when renovating your bathroom is more storage. This is so you can keep toiletries (plus refills) in cabinets and be more organized. Additional storage can also mean you’ll have a cleaner and more pleasant-looking space.

It’s at this point that you could include a luxury feature that you’d want to include in your bathroom. There’s research that suggests these features can reduce stress because you’ll be thinking about relaxing in your bathroom before you go home. Such items may include heated tile flooring, a freestanding tub, or an oversized shower.
