The Many Attractions of Marina Del Rey

Destinations & Honeymoons

17 Jan

For anyone planning a wedding, there are three main venues to consider: one for the bachelor/bachelorette party, one for the wedding itself, and one for the honeymoon. But what if you could choose a place to do all three? Somewhere that is fun and lively, but also charming and romantic?

For couples looking for year-round sunshine and a laid back, relaxed vibe, they should look no further than Marina Del Rey. Beaches, bike paths, sailboats and shopping all exist within this captivating coastal community located only about six miles north of Los Angeles Airport — and near both Venice Beach and Santa Monica.

Once an estuary used by fishermen and duck hunters, Marina Del Rey is now the city’s leading recreational hub for on-the-water activities. Whilst there may be many a corporate yacht party in Marina Del Rey, that isn’t the only kind of event it’s good for.

Outdoor Activities

You and you guests will be spoilt for choice with all the outdoor activities on offer at Marina Del Rey. Bustling beaches, beautiful parks and plenty of ocean provide the setting for exciting activities both on and off land. Sport fishing, parasailing, paddle boarding, yogaqua, and whale watching are just some of the water sports you can take part in. Those keen to keep both feet on land can enjoy miles of scenic bike paths, promenades, hang gliding, athletics, fishing, spa days, tennis, yoga and plenty more.

Marina Del Rey offers many charter opportunities offering up the classic Southern California experience. Be it for wedding, corporate or birthday celebrations, or simply a Sunday jaunt on the open ocean with a spot of whale watching, there are vessels available for small groups or parties of up to 300 people.

Shopping

For people looking for a good spot for a little retail therapy, Marina Del Rey doesn’t disappoint. There are chic boutiques and beauty hotspots aplenty all just a stone’s throw from the water’s edge. Also worth a visit is the Marina Del Rey Farmers Market which is open every Saturday from 9am and 2pm. Locals gather here to shop for fresh fruit and vegetables, sample local delicacies and browse the many hand-crafted gifts for sale whilst enjoying the music and entertainment on offer.

Exciting Night Life

With many alfresco options available, as well as music and dancing to enjoy, Marina Del Rey really comes alive at night. Bars, restaurants and hotels offer up happy hour drinks and live music sessions. Why not jump aboard one of the many cruises available for an evening with a difference, or head to The Warehouse for waterfront atmosphere with live acoustic music and salsa dancing on deck. Don’t pass up the opportunity to head to Dockweiler State Beach, located just 3 miles south of Playa Del Rey where you can cosy up next to one of the many fire pits while you enjoy sundowners on a beautiful beach.

Beyond the Marina there are also many attractions to explore within Los Angeles. World-famous beaches and attractions such as the renowned Getty Museum are well worth a visit should your itinerary allow it.
