While you may have been swept up with the planning and worry of your perfect wedding day, the time has come to let go of that strain and enjoy your honeymoon. As your first real experience as a married couple, your honeymoon is the ideal way to de-stress after a frantic wedding day. What you don’t want, of course, is for your honeymoon dreams to turn into a vacation nightmare that gets your wedding started off in the wrong way. If you’re planning your honeymoon already, then here are some tips that will make it far more likely to be the dream ending to your dream wedding, and the perfect way to start off many happy years of contented married bliss.
Discuss what you both want to do
One of the biggest mistakes that newlywed couples make when arranging their honeymoon is simply not talking about it! If one person is making all of the plans, then the chances are that the other member of the marriage is not going to be having the honeymoon that they were hoping for. That’s why you should always have some discussions about just what sort of honeymoon you both want. It may be that you want exactly the same thing, but if one of you wants romantic walks on sunset beaches and the other wants adrenaline-fuelled swimming with sharks, then you’re going to have issues. Make sure that both of you are going to have the time of your lives.
Mix things up
Try not to stick to the same activities every day. It might be nice to spend the first few days just unwinding on the beach, but if you want a more memorable time, remember to shake things up a bit. Rent a car and explore your surroundings, head off the beaten track and go in search of adventure! While unwinding on the beach may be nice, you’ll have a much more romantic time if you explore together, creating new memories and soaking up new cultures. Renting a car, and you can read more here, also gives you a great level of freedom, so that you can take control of your comings and goings, without having to worry about public transport or that annoying couple from the plane who are staying at the same hotel.
Go with the flow
While you should always have some kind of schedule planned so that you waste the least amount of time discussing what to do each day, remember to stay open to new ideas. It could be that you arrive at your honeymoon destination to find that there are an array of excursions and activities that you didn’t know about, so stay flexible with your itinerary. Always make sure that you both have an idea about daily activities, but that you’re both happy to mix things up if the opportunity presents itself. Sticking to too rigid a schedule is a fast way of putting limitations on your honeymoon, and that’s not a good start to your marriage!
With a little bit of discussion and some tentative planning, your honeymoon will end up as a memory that you will both remember long after the stresses of the wedding have faded. Remember that this is your first step towards a new life and that your honeymoon is the best opportunity to get your marriage started the right way.
